I always shade in walls on the back side of my trace paper sketches - keeps the wall lines crisp and the shading doesn’t have to be perfect to be effective. This is a renovation project I’m working on where we are reusing the existing building foundation - fun project to puzzle through. . . . . . . . #whatthisarchitectdoes #architect #designsketch #tombowdualbrushpens #sharpiepens #residentialarchitecture #lifeofanarchitect
This is going to be a dope concrete wall! We did a few mock-ups to get everything coordinated and it won’t be long before the rebar gets set. Totally excited for this one, I love concrete. . . . . . . . #lifeofanarchitect #architect #design #construction #whatthisarchitectdoes #concrete #formwork #dallas #work214 #mmbarchitects
Quick study on the openings in the 32’ tall exposed concrete wall at our Oak Grove project. This project is going to be great!
Check out #7! This isn’t normally the sort of thing I’d put here but I was very, very happy to see that iTunes had us in the Top 10. While the podcast is a lot more work than I anticipated, Andrew and I feel thankful for everyone who has come along for the ride. If you haven’t listened to the podcast yet, give it a shot. It’s free, fairly amusing at times, and I think you might learn something without realizing it. Link is in my bio. Thanks again!!
“Don’t Let the Internet Design Your Project” New post today on LifeofanArchitect.com . It only happens a few times a year, but I felt the need to climb up on my soapbox and talk about the schematic design process and the relationship between the architect and the client during this period of collaboration. Some people just love to give their opinions whether they know anything about the project or not. After writing a site like mine for so long, I no longer criticize the work of others in a casual manner because I don’t know enough to pass judgement. . . . . . . . #lifeofanarchitect #whatthisarchitectdoes #drawing #design #sketch #architect #architecture #residentialarchitect
Today’s sketch was created during a meeting on the Estate project with the MEP engineers. We moved a bit faster than them over the last month and now we are coordinating duct runs and sizes against structural beams and lighting. Easier and cheaper to solve it on paper than in the field. . . . . . . . #lifeofanarchitect #whatthisarchitectdoes #drawing #design #construction #mep #tracepaper #sharpie #coordination
Quite a change in gears from my last post - spent my morning in a schematic design meeting sketching and talking through options with the clients. Small projects deserve architects as well. . . . . . . . #lifeofanarchitect #whatthisarchitectdoes #drawing #design #smallproject #architect #architecture #residentialdesign
