I’ve waited for this moment for weeks! I can’t believe it’s finally here! 🤩 Tomorrow, I’m going to be reunited with some of the doggies I met on the South Korean dog meat farm I visited this summer. They’ve been going through quarantine and vaccination and settling at a @hsiglobal shelter in Montreal. I just flew there and tomorrow I will see the babies! Such a journey for all involved, and the doggies especially. 🙏✨ . . About this: Iwas invited by Humane Society International to take part in the fight against the dog meat trade, and I’m very excited to lend my support to Korean animal activists through this organization. Dog meat consumption is in decline in SK, and the young generation is pro-animal rights (their President even adopted a dog!). But there is still much work to be done for these doggies. . . . My trip to South Korea was very intense. I still have so much to share with you. This doggie broke my heart because he was so scared on the farm 😭 I know most dogs I’m about to see again will be nervous. I just hope I can photograph a few in all their glory! Wish me luck 💚. . . PS: please refrain from asking me about pigs and cows. I understand that some of you are upset to see people concerned for dogs when farm animals suffer too, but this is the project I’m currently working on and this is my journey. Let’s not take away from these doggies. 🙏✨ . . . #koreanmeatdog #koreanmeatdogsurvivor #jindo #endthedogmeattrade #southkorea
NEW YORK (LONG ISLAND): CALI NEEDS OUR HELP! ugh this breaks my heart guys… 😭🙏 Cali was found as a stray back in 2014, and went to the care of @tohanimalshelter. She sat at the shelter for a year, waiting for a lucky break, until a lady adopted her. Sadly, Cali just showed up again as a stray! 😩 The shelter tried contacting her owner, but their attempts went nowhere. After the intake vet visit, the shelter discovered that Cali has cancer. And it is not looking good for her… We don’t know how long she has left, but probably not much. 🙏🙏😭 Could this be the reason this sweet girl was found in the street? 😰 I don’t dare even entertaining the idea, because it is too much for my heart. I am devastated that Cali has had such bad luck in life. And now, at 8 years old and with cancer, she is looking for her lucky star once again, and this will be her LAST chance 😰💚. Please share and tag your local friends. We are looking for a fospice for this girl (which means foster-hospice), or adopter, where she can live for the rest of her life. You can follow her journey at @adopt_me_ny . . Cali is very friendly with people, is recommended for kids 13+ and may be able to live with another dog. She is a bit under socialized and would need slow and proper intros with other dogs. Her new person should take things slow in general. She is house broken and crate trained. If there is anyone out there willing to open their home and heart to Cali, please contact the shelter immediately: 516-785-5220, firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com. 🙏🙏🙏 . . . #PitBullFlowerPower #fospice
NEW YORK: join me next Monday at @animalhaven for a presentation about “The Art of Advocacy”. Seats are very limited and tickets are $20 (all proceeds going to Animal Haven). They include a wine reception. Book soon as these events sold out reaaaally quickly 😅🙏 See you there! (And let me know if you might want to buy a book or some merch, I might bring some!).
COLOMBIA: I had an AMAZING time in Colombia! Omg I have so many stories, I don’t even know where to begin! This trip was made possible by the Fundación Animal Love (@fundacion_animalove) and my friend Maria (@pawsingdogphotography) who organized it all and stayed by my side the whole time. 🙏🥰 We visited the Foundation, we photographed random strangers and their dogs (ended up in a cockfighting ring, then in a dark corner behind a plank for a man to show us his pride and joy…), we followed a local rescue (@arcaluminosa) that does amazing work (more soon!) and helped them rescue a new doggie (it was a super easy rescue, Cereza literally just followed us! 🤣🤣 smart girl), I met a homeless guy who takes care of 50 street dogs, I gave 2 presentations and met wonderful people who are working so hard to improve the situation for animals in Colombia. 🙌🙌 . I am still on cloud9 honestly, after all these encounters and adventures. I am sleep deprived, exhausted, emotionally drained, but I know I also made friends for life, and I hope I can help them and a few doggies on the way. Stay tuned for more posts about my Colombian adventures! Since my Patreons also made this trip possible, I will be sharing exclusive stories on there. Join at Patreon.com/SophieGamand. 💚
Sunchip from @luvabledogrescue (adopted) is one of the stars of my 2020 calendar, puppy edition! 💜💜💜 Get the calendar via the link in my bio 🤗 (until Thursday night, it’s 15% off with code ONEFIVE)
Jonas from @readyforrescue (adopted). . . Don’t mind me, I’m just posting this pic to prove Amazon it belongs to me... it’s my monthly “take all the Amazon listings which-violate-my-copyright down” 😬😒 As a reminder, the only product of mine Amazon is allowed to sell are my coffee table books. Nothing else. So please don’t buy any product with my images on there 🙏 Chances are it will be poorly made and printed, since it will be based on a low res image they stole online... . Jonas was such a wiggly butt during our shoot!!

NEW YORK: Reba from @mrbonesandco has been waiting for a home for more than 3 years, despite being pretty much perfection! Now her longtimer status is getting in the way, because potential adopters wonder if there is something wrong with her. But this gorgeous, sweet and funny 4.5-year-old baby is pretty much perfection! She is friendly with dogs and loves all kids. The only things she doesn’t like are: cats, empty food bowls and rainy days. . Her foster mom describes her as loving belly rubs, walks, hikes, runs, but she is also a great couch potato. When she’s happy, she snorts like a piglet. She is a barnacle girl and always wants to be right next to you, and thinks she’s a 5lb lapdog. She does a little tippy toe dance when she is ready for a walk or a tasty treat! She LOVES toys, especially the ones she can pull the stuffing out of. . To adopt Reba (NY, but out-of-state will be considered), please email firstname.lastname@example.org with questions or apply directly via mrbonesandco.org/adopt. . #AdoptRebaMBC
Guys I’ve been keeping this sad news from you... Lady Red passed away. She spent 6 years at the shelter, after being labeled dog aggressive. A couple of months ago, @susiesseniordogs and I gave her profile another big push, after she’d shown mellower around other dogs. And it worked! Laura fell in love and adopted her. Lady Red became bestie with her new dog brother (swipe for video). Sadly, the first night after her adoption, Lady had a seizure. Then more after that, until Laura had to let her go. Lady only had a few weeks with her family. It took her so many years to find them. She was loved so, so much. I want to remember her playing with her brother on that bed forever 🙏🤗 . There are so many doggies like her waiting for years for a chance. Doggies who have so much to offer. No dog should grow old and grey at the shelter. Please, consider adopting a long timer. 🙏💚 @calhouncountyhumane 😢
Three years ago today! I met my doggy soulmate in a really horrific “shelter” in Puerto Rico. I use the term “shelter” loosely, because it’s more of an animal control death camp with over 90% death rate. The puppy next cage over had just died. All around us, dogs were whimpering, panting, whining, scared out of their minds, in pain, in shock, dying. Awaiting their fate. There was little to no hope for any of them. It’s probably the most traumatic place I’ve ever visited. In a cage, this little brindle sausage had given up, and he was next on their euth list. Not fluffy enough. Nobody wanted him. But there was something so touching, deep and special about him. I texted my hubby and, long story short, he soon joined our family. So often when I look at him, I am devastated to think of the place he comes from, and all the doggies we left behind. But his eyes and heart hold the world. I love you #pawfessormaclovin 💚💚💚 . Ps: and this is why I respect this weirdo and all his fearful ways (afraid of strangers, of flying bags, and the wind, and big dogs, and people trying to pet him, and weird sounds the neighbors make, etc...). If we believe dogs are sentient beings, we must see that they suffer from trauma just like we do.
This is for my friends in Colombia 🇨🇴🙏 I’m visiting this week, for some dog rescue work, and I’m taking part in 2 talks around my work! . . Wednesday at 7pm (@lafotoperreria) “La Fotografía Y El Arte De Ayudar.” (Photography and the art of helping/advocacy). This is geared towards photographers or people with an interest in photo as an advocacy tool. . And Thursday 10am (@uniandes) “Los Pitt Bull desde el Arte y desde el Derecho” (Pit bulls from the perspective of Art and Law - which I’m excited about given I originally studied Law!!). . . Details and tickets are available via the link in my bio! Both event are free (we do ask for dog food donation on Wednesday night). 💚💚💚 and thank you @pawsingdogphotography for organizing all of this!!
